As a little aside, this video linked below is a super short and kinda silly overview of the hand and eye process that is mentioned in the article. Jim Tolpin, the author of by hand & eye, walks through the human scale design process here and how dividers are used to design something without ever breaking out a tape measure. This kind of work has hard to get your head around at first if you're used to using a tape measure for everything, its like cooking though, the more you get to know the basic ratios, you don't really need to pay too close attention to recipes anymore. This kind of work makes me think of the axiom "Accuracy is the Enemy of Precision" meaning you can measure something to the most accurate dimension, but if it doesn't fit because something else is wrong or your material expanded, it's not precise. I love this approach because it forces you to pay attention rather than assuming that because you followed the instruction you must be right. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MaUP_K2sW5A
